Main News Page : Falmouth Harbour Commission supplied by Tides Marine
Tides Marine has been chosen to supply the Shaft Seals and Smart Seal Alarm System to Falmouth Harbour Commission for their 16m Pilot Vessel “Arrow”. This is first commercial working vessel to be fitted with the new Smart Seal Alarm System.

The pilot boats in Falmouth Harbour regularly achieve in excess of 2,600 working hours per year and down time can be detrimental to the efficient working of the harbour. Will Davies, Assistant Harbour Master explained “We had experienced some problems with vibration and water in the stern seals. Tides Marine offered us the dry, dripless solution. With their experience and knowledge of the systems used, they were able to help resolve the tail gear problems we were facing”.

This is the first large commercial vessel to fit the new Smart Seal Alarm System. The overheat temperature warning system was introduced by Tides Marine earlier this year and has proved essential for keeping maintenance at a minimum. The alarm system is fitted to the Lloyd’s Register certified propeller shaft seals and allows an audible and visual alarm alters operators to any increase in operating temperature. This system allows for continuous running, with low maintenance and no down time for the vessels.

Following the success of this first installation, Tides Marine was the obvious choice for the second Falmouth Harbour Pilot Vessel the “L.K Mitchell” which is currently undergoing a refit.

Tides Marine is based in Poole, UK and is the main overseas distributor for US manufacturer Tides Marine’s range of propeller shaft seals, rudder bearings and mainsail track systems. Their product portfolios also includes Aqualuma underwater lights, Armstrong Nautical ladders and outboard brackets, Tallon Marine accessory mounting system and Transhield boat storage covers. Tides Marine has sales offices in Italy, Spain and Poland. They supply to production boat builders, service facilities, propulsion equipment manufacturers, commercial operators and vessel owners as well as to a network of partners around the world. Tides Marine International has recently obtained its ISO 9001:2008 Certification in recognition of its quality management systems for the supply of marine equipment.
